Why We're Saying Goodbye to 350g
When we started Ovenbird in 2013, almost every coffee supplier in the UK sold coffee in 227g or 250g bags. We thought that was too small. Coffee drinkers deserved more, and we believed a 350g bag was the right size, enough to genuinely explore a coffee, not just get a taste of it.
Most people told us we were wrong. We carried on anyway.
For years, the 350g grew in the hearts of our customers. It became a reference point. The size people reached for without thinking. It simply worked.
Then, in the last year or so, something shifted. The 350g stopped being enough. Customers who once ordered one bag started ordering two, then three. The 1kg bag quietly became our most common choice. The data tells the story clearly. In 2026, our customers want more coffee, not less.
So we listened. From April 2026, our smallest bag size will be 500g.
Postage costs, packaging costs, and the relentless pressure of trading in a difficult world have all played their part. But the real reason is simpler. Our customers have outgrown 350g, and we have a responsibility to follow them.
We were right about 350g in 2013. We think we're right about 500g now.
Thank you for growing with us.
